Devmeet Love

Sun Mar 30, 2008, 5:47 AM
It appears that a lot of my "recent" journal entries have all begun along the lines of "its been a long time since I was last here" and this appears to be a frequent trend. I have been here, mostly idling not logged and while quite often logged in on irc and active behind the scenes with meets and such like I haven't been seen to be part of the community that I grew to love and hate in such epic proportions so as to make me want never to leave however tiresome I got of the constant reminders that this place had been slipping into becoming quite like an artists version of myspace.

Regardless of that fact I do love the community and have in the past been quite active in both photography and isometric galleries with my most famous and subsequently popular piece being the isometric collaboration since which has had many a copy-cat. The isometric collaboration is still a work in progress which is sad because it shows how hard a majority of the community work towards a common goal while those who couldn't be bothered stopped it from going further. With respect to the isometric collaboration I am determined to get it finished, I have had a lot of university work on the past few months but now that has all subsided to a steady trickle allowing for extra projects like this on the side.

It saddens me a little to see that I am no longer a member and that had I kept up the effort within the isometric community I may have been promoted to senior as many of my friends on here have been. I guess thats hind-sight for you though, right now I would be happy with a subscription but in light of student finances that's not going to happen for a while now.

Anyway enough of that babbling, I am currently writing this at Helens, during this years Cardiff devmeet. It has been an amazing experience and reminded me of how close the deviantart community is and how great a time we all have during these meets. I have a ton of photos to upload, which I may do later tonight once I get home.

What stupid thing did you do for your 21st?

Journal Entry: Fri Sep 14, 2007, 2:27 PM

Well it was my 21st Birthday on the tuesday just past, I didn't really do much for it Weeble came round for the day and we went to Bluewater so he could buy me a present and take me out to lunch, the entirety of the day envolved me opening a handfull of cards and recieving a brand new, new style mac keyboard and mouse which I connected to my pc. Now I am sure your wondering what any of this has to do with the title of this post, being that it all sounds pretty mundane and even anti-climactical considering what 21st birthdays are imagined to be like. Well on Wednesday I wasn't called in by the hospital to work and being that I'm an on-call employee that meant I had another day off so I gave Weeble a ring and he amazed me by being able to turn up to my house at 10am! With not a lot else to do we went back to Bluewater upon which we became drawn to the Apple shop, now all I can say is this was premeditated we did in fact go there with an intention to buy and buy I did.

Two hours later I walked out of Bluewater with a MacPro, yes I spent £1,553 on a computer I have been going on about getting for the past three years. I did end up with a huge discount on the original price which was closer to two grand, however I got student discount plus it was my birthday and by now a few people in the apple shop know me as a regular.

Its been a couple days since I bought the thing and I do love it, it is AMAZINGLY FAST and just wow. But I still feel slightly shocked at how much money (I didn't have to spend) I actually spent...

So what's the most stupidest thing you did for your 21st as i'm going to be living off of toast for my last year of uni.
